Trip to the Dinosaur Rock

img_7024

The Chinese New Year started on the 26th of January, and the children had a 2-4 week holiday from school depending on which grade they are in.  During this time off, most of  the children go back to their villages to stay with related relatives that they have left.  There are several children who stay at the Home of Hope during the holiday because they either do not have a village to go to, or do not have any family members to go back to.  So we decided to try and plan several different activities for the children so they would not feel left out by not being able to go anywhere.

On one of our trips to Zhengzhou (this is the capital city of Henan) to get our visa for this year, we drove past this very large dinosaur made out of concrete.  Unfortunately, we were not driving, so we were unable to stop and check it out closer. We then decided that we would go back during the New Year Festival.   We loaded up our van with some of the kids and headed out.  All the kids had a great time, it was however, really cold, so we weren’t able to spend a lot of time there. The kids really liked to be able to walk “inside” the dinosaur.

All of us; Ben and Rose

Autumn, Rose and Gracie are not used of being in a car for a long period of time and they all got a little motion sick on the way home; we had to drive through a mountain to get there.  After we got back to the Home of Hope their house mother had them take a nap, and they slept for 4 hours!  When they woke up they each said that their head was  still spinning.  Even though it ended with motion sickness, they all said that they had a great time.
