This new year has been probably the busiest we have ever had. Michelle and I decided to have a big New Years party for our children on January 1st since we dont get to celebrate the Chinese New Year with most of our children. Typically the Chinese people celebrate their New Year according to the lunar calendar and it varies from year to year when they celebrate it; this year it’s January 22-24. Most of our children will go back to their villages to celebrate this holiday with their grandparents, or extended family for a short time. This way they stay connected to their families and their village.

We started the night off with shooting off fireworks. The kids were very excited and we heard a lot of “Oooohs” and “Ahhhhs” from them.
We can’t have fireworks without sparklers! Debbie (left) and Ellie (right) playing with their sparklers.

After the fireworks were over the older children came to Michelle and my(Ben) house to watch movies and play until the New Year came. We thought about having our five younger kindergarten aged boys stay up too, but they seemed pretty tired after the first movie so they went to bed.
The children love eating sunflower seeds and peanuts, so we laid out some sponges and let them kick back and enjoy a movie. While some of the boys wore costumes that we have collected over the years for our 3 sons; our girls put on some of Michelle’s hats, dresses and fake jewelery.

Last year we had a paper football tournament that the kids really enjoyed; so we decided to have another one this year. In the above picture Jaxin (our eldest son and on the left) in the second round of the tournament played against Sarah (right) and won his way to the 1st/2nd place final. Sarah was moved to the 3rd/4th place bracket.
For the 1st place prize Jaxin (left) and Gabe (right) went head to head with Gabe winning 5-4.
(left to right)Gabe beat Jaxin for 1st place, Hawk (our housemothers son)joined us for the party and won 3rd place against Sarah. Each child won a small prize.

The later the night got, the more the children were wondering how late we were going to allow them to stay up. We told our translator to tell them they could stay up until midnight. After he told them all the children yelled with such excitement we figured maybe something was misunderstood. When we asked what was said, he told us that he told them they could all stay the night. With such excitement we just went with it. One thing can be said for sure is that we all slept quiet warm and snug with over 21 people in our livingroom:)

WEDDING

When we opened our orphanage in March 2010, Nicky (bride) came to our gate asking if she could help us by teaching our children. She has been such a blessing and great friend since then. In December she told us that she was getting married to her boyfriend of three years. She asked if we would preform a Christian style wedding for them. Michelle and I agreed and started marriage counseling right away. January 5th Nicky and John were married.

BIRTHDAY PARTY

January we have many birthdays to celebrate, so instead of having a bunch of birthday parties we have one big party. (left to right) Gene turned 7, Mark turned 10, Noah turned 7, Michelle turned…not allowed to say:), Sarah turned 10.

CHILD SEARCH

This year we have had 4 people come to our gate asking for help with orphaned children, two 9 year old girls, one 5 year old boy and one 7 year old boy. When we go on child searches we are given a list of names from the government of orphans who are in need; the orphans are registered with the government. When we have people come to our gate asking for help, usually its for children who are not registered with the government; some don’t even have birth certificates. These children are the ones we truly want to find and help because they are usually extremely poor (which is the main reason they are not registered or have birth certificates) and are in desperate need of help. Our hopes are to welcome our new children during the summer time. The main two reasons for this is because the local schools won’t allow us to start a new student during the middle of the school year, and we have more time with the children to get them accustomed with their new life as a child of the Home of Hope before they start school.

When we search out children, its hard for us to say what is a “normal situation” because each child is special; some children need immediate action. Frank (Zhu Xue Feng) needed help right away so we brought him in this spring.
Franks father died of a disease October of last year; unfortunately we don’t know which disease it was from. His mother ran away soon after and has never been heard of since. Both his grandparents have passed too. His only living relative is a 44 year old aunt. (see picture below)

Most of our children that we help we feel we are not only helping them but their very old grandparents. Usually if we find a child who has a young relative who is more than capable to take of that child we encourage them to do so. This woman absolutely refused to listen to us and told us that she will not help him; she had her own sons to take care of. To prove to us that she meant what she said, she moved down south into another province leaving Frank in his fathers house.

We went to his village because we just could not believe that someone could do this to a child. So we started asking the neighbors if she truly abandoned him like that, they confirmed it and told us that the village had some Christians who were trying to give him clothes and food, but could hardly afford it because of how poor the village was. The aunt moved down south but came back to meet us because the government told her if she wanted our help she had to sign our contract. We begged her to take care of Frank but her heart was so cold that she told us that if we dont take him she was just going to leave him in the village.
We brought Frank into his dads home and asked him where he slept and did he live by himself. Our hearts were just crushed when he said yes. So we asked him if he would like to come live where he would be loved, fed and have a family with many sisters and brothers. Frank has big eyes and even a bigger smile and he just smiled and shook his head yes. Our hearts just melted, unfortunately he is very shy and its been very hard to capture that smile on camera, but we look forward to the many chances of trying to get it for you to see. He joined our family on January 7th:)

Heating Bill

Currently with the cold winter weather we use small space heaters to heat our children’s bedrooms. When we build our new addition (see details below) we will install a boiler system. The smaller heaters cost a lot to run, but is the only way we can give heat to our children. Our typical electricity bill is around $285.00 per month. Last month our bill was over $650, and it was only the beginning of winter:) We estimate paying an additional $1500 at least for our electricity bill for this winter; any help with this bill would be a tremendous bless.

Tires

We bought our van in October of 2008 and have been blessed with such a nice van. Currently our van has 65,000 kilometers (about 40,000 miles). Pingyu is a poor rural area and because of such, the roads are extremely bad. We started noticing our tires had a lot of stress cracks and our van was not driving just right. When we brought our van to the mechanic he discovered one of our tires had a bulge, the other tire had a leak on the side wall and the front two tires did not look like they were in very good condition either. We typically try to raise money first before buying anything, but these tires needed to be replaced immediately. Unfortunately, since Pingyu is so far from any big city, some things are quiet costly; like spending $100 per tire. If you would like to donate the cost of one tire or more, it would be greatly appreciated.

If you are interested in helping us with either need please click HERE.

We thank you for taking the time to read about our family and the amazing things that we get to experience. We are always so grateful that we were chosen to come here and serve. Its an absolute pleasure for us to be apart of these little ones lives. We know that it takes more than just servitude, it takes a lot of prayer and financial donations for us to keep going; and we just can not thank you enough for those of you who have given to our work here in China.

Last year we were able to celebrate Christmas in our play room and thought we could try it again this year. After counting all of our children, staff and friends who would be participating, we realized that our playroom was way too small and moved the party into our dining hall. Unfortunately, we realized this after we decorated our tree…thankfully Jonathan (our translator)and Ben were able to move it without everything falling off. We also took our family picture before moving the room, which only confirmed we needed to move it…the room was a bit of a squeeze:)
As you can see in the pictures below, everyone had a lot more room and our dining hall looked wonderful.

We actually needed to celebrate Christmas the weekend before because our children had school on Christmas and had a three day weekend the week before. Most of China does not celebrate Christmas like we do in the United States; their big holiday is their New Year.

Our Christmas morning we started off with welcoming in some brothers and sisters that preformed several dances and songs.

The rest of the day we prepared for the night activities.
Michelle fixing Wendy’s hair.

Unfortunately we were a little busy to get too many pictures of behind the scenes stuff that went on. For instance, all of our housemothers, even the ones who had the day off, helped cook our dinner. We had several dishes, normally we eat one dish and have a bowl of soup for dinner. We also had the Naayers family (some friends from a nearby college) come to celebrate with us. They helped us set up tables, decorate the dining hall and stuff candy and toys into the children’s stockings.

We started the festivities with a very nice dinner in our classroom.

We finished the night by talking to the children about the reason for the season before passing out their gifts. It is truly amazing to see the joy and excitement of children hearing about the Christmas story for the first time. It was even more awing to hear the joy of the children who knew the story from last year telling the children who did not know it this year.
All of us from the Pingyu Home of Hope wish you a very warm and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

One of the most enjoyable things we like to do on the weekends, is to walk around our property to see what all of our children are doing. The kids have so much pressure from the schools and society to be the best in school, that even on the weekends, their teachers give them enormous amounts of homework. Our children have learned that work comes before play, and they work very hard to complete their homework as soon as they get home; this way they can have the rest of the weekend to play.
We walked around with a camera to show all the many different activities that go on during a typical weekend day.
We start off by watching Jonathan, our new translator, teach tai chi.

While he was teaching tai chi, several of our older children were riding bikes. Left-Debbie gives Ellie a ride. Right- Gabe giving Anna a ride.

Philip and Wendy zoom by with big smiles!

Being too small to ride a bike or be given a ride; Joey has fun with some roller blades.

While some of the children were riding bikes, Graham played with his new car.

At the same time, a few children were playing on our playground.
Tyler (our youngest son) playing on the monkey bars. We are very impressed because at 6 years old he can go from one end and back on the bars without stopping!

While Tyler was monkeying around, Thomas (left) and Jake (right) were enjoying the swings.

While most of our children were enjoying the warm weather, a few of our children were inside watching TV. They are only allowed to watch TV on the weekends for 1 1/2 hours per day.
(Left to right) Lester, Mark, Zoey and our middle son Eli watching TV.

And as we said above, “Work before play.”; Emma (right) and Hollie (left) were in the classroom finishing their homework.

We finished with checking the kitchen and 2 of our housemothers were inside making dinner. We currently have 9 employees; 6 housemothers, 1 cook, 1 teacher and 1 translator.
Rui Xia (left) and Wen Ying (right) are 2 of our housemothers who were filling in for our cook who had the day off.

Each week we give the children a little allowance money to teach them how to be responsible with spending money. They use their allowance money to buy pencil lead, pencils, erasers, rulers and other small items they use for school. They usually have enough to buy some small snacks too.
A half block away from our home, we have been blessed with the opening of a small grocery store. To help bless the store owners and give some of our older children some freedom; we allow our 9 year old and older children to go and buy snacks.(left to right) Hollie, Sarah, Debbie, Jaxin (our eldest son), Philip, Eddy, Wendy, Gabe, and Mark just coming back from the nearby store.

Night Time Fun!

After dinner we do many different activities too. A lot of the boys love to roller blade as you can see Philip doing.

We also play music for the kids to dance to.

And we have plenty of time to just hang out and bond.
Hollie(11 years old), our eldest child, holding Joey(4 years old) our youngest child.

Debbie (left) and Zoey (right) showing the greatest thing that all the children learn to have and give….LOVE!

Thank you for helping to spread that precious gift into all these wonderful children!

Our children all started school on September 1st! Below is a picture of the children lining up to walk to school. The older girls and boys walk about 7 minutes to the public primary school. The kindergarten boys also walk to school but it takes them about 15 minutes to get to school, its not the same school. Our housemothers drop the children off and pick them up from school.

National Day

October 1st is China’s national day and the children had a 10 day holiday. We were quite surprised that they had so many days off since they just had a 4 day holiday on September 11th for the Moon festival, but we enjoyed the time with the children. Usually when the children get an extended holiday, their teachers load them down with so much extra homework that they have to spend everyday doing homework; they give so much homework to keep the children’s mind active. We tell the children that when this happens, they have a couple of options. They can either work hard and get it done all at once, or do a little each day, but they must have it all completed by the end of the holiday.

With having such a long holiday we wanted to use the time wisely. We wanted to make sure to give a time to relax from the intense school pressure, so there was a lot of play time.
Jonathan (our new translator) and I (Ben) played basketball with some of the children. We were a little surprised that Zoey really took an interest in playing….and were very surprised that she could slam dunk a basketball;)

Some of the children played a Chinese version of hopscotch. Sarah is quite the jumper and won a lot of the games. She also loves jump roping; she can jump over 100 times without stopping.

We also brought the children to a nearby park.

Each week we give the children some allowance money to teach them how to be responsible with money. On the way home from the park we stopped at a small store and let them buy some snacks.

Sweet Treats

One day while we were out buying food for the day, we saw a man with a cotton candy machine on his motorcycle. We asked him to come to our place to give our children a treat. The children were quite surprised:)

Pizza Time

Michelle was out one day and found a bakery that made delicious breads. She decided to buy some and make pizza. The pizza’s were a hit and gave Michelle and Kari (our visitor from Canada) some time to teach the girls how to cook.
Hollie (back left) and Sarah (upfront) cutting tomatoes.

Work Projects

We also had a few work projects planned to teach some of the children how to work with their hands. First thing we did was patch a bad spot in our driveway.
(left to right) Philip, Graham and our eldest son Jaxin smooth out the concrete.

The biggest project we did, and one that all the children were very excited about, was making our own garden to try and help with the inflation here in China and the American dollar loss of value. We started this project during the Moon festival. It also taught the children to be more grateful for the food we eat everyday because they now know how hard it was to get.
The first thing we did was find a place for the garden and start pulling weeds.

Then we broke up the ground using shovels, hoes and picks! (left to right)Jake, Jaxin, Gabe, Mark, Eddy, Eli and Philip.

Emma using a hoe to break the ground up

While some of the older children were digging up the ground, the younger boys picked up the rocks and other debris that was dug up.
Picture on the left is of Jake (left) throws in one more rock while Eddy (middle) and Graham (right) carry the heavy load away. Picture on right is Tyler and Eddy dumping the bucket of rocks….it looks like to us that Tyler was telling Eddy to dump the load right here:)

Everyone helped with the work, Joey our youngest child showing off his gloves.

After the work was over, everyone sat under the shade tree and enjoyed an ice cream:)

Thank you for taking the time in reading about our family. We hope you enjoyed this update and please check soon for more.
Blessings
This years summer camp was held in Gongyi, where the first Home of Hope orphanage is located. Each year we try to host the summer camp at a different location, either at the Gongyi Home of Hope, the Xuzhou Home of Hope (last years camp was held there), and hopefully when we raise enough money for our new addition we will be able to host the camp here in Pingyu. This gives the children at each home a chance to travel to a different city and also to show their city to all of their brothers and sisters!!

This year we had just over 60 children who were all primary school and middle school age attend the camp. Each year we split the children into 3 teams for a friendly competition and ask the high school aged kids and college age kids to help us by being team captains and counselors. (Above left to right) Jenny, Vincent, Holly, Wayne, Shirley, Luke, Matthew, Gail and Tony (all from the Gongyi Home of Hope).

The Three Teams!!!

The camp was for 3 days, not including the 2 travel days it took our Home of Hope and the Xuzhou Home of Hope to get to and from the Gongyi Home of Hope.

THE FIRST DAY

The first day is always a little boring for the younger children because we are separating everyone into teams, and passing out our shirts, which we would like to thank The Shirt Shack, Inc. for donating all of our shirts! While the children were being separated into teams and trying to come up with designs and names for their teams, Michelle and Hollie (Ben’s older sister who is visiting for the summer) painted some of the children’s faces.

To give the children an idea what they could get painted, Michelle and Hollie painted all of our children’s faces a few days before the camp. Our children loved being able to point out to everyone at the camp their picture.

“PING PONG DAY”!!!!

We told the story about how when David was fighting Goliath he had to go to the river and find 5 smooth ping pong balls:) He then took one and with his sling shot he defeated Goliath.
(Don’t try this without adult supervision)
(no one was harmed during this production)
We split the children into 2 groups, primary school aged children and middle school aged children. While the middle school aged children tried using the sling shot to throw the ping pong the farthest distance, we had the primary school children do a “ping Pong” egg hunt representing David looking for his 5 stones. (See picture below)

We explained to the children how King David had such joy that he was always singing or dancing……so they would also be dancing, which was quite joyous to watch.

We tied an empty Kleenex box on the children’s waste and filled it with 10 ping pong balls. They had 30 seconds to dance the balls out of the box, for each ball out they earned 10 points for their team!

T-Shirts

The toughest part of the camp is for all 3 administrators who have to judge each teams shirt and flag design. All of the children worked so hard on designing their shirts and flags. Below the children waiting to be judged.

Team POP won 1st place in both shirt and flag design!!!!!

The Second Day

The second day was the start of our Water day. Pretty much the goal of this day was to get as wet as possible and stay that way! We started off with a water balloon toss.

The children began one arm length away from each other and after each successful catch without the balloon popping, they took one step away from each other. Little did they know that the award for winning was getting a BIG water balloon popped over their heads!

James and Martin (both from the Xuzhou Home of Hope) won by throwing the balloon and catching it over 30 feet apart from each other.

After the balloon toss we played a game that my lovely wife Michelle must have come up with, “How wet can you get the administrator”; who happen to be Bob Sayre (administrator to the Xuzhou Home of Hope), Nathan Bell (administrator to the Gongyi Home of Hope), and I, Ben Godard (administrator to the Pingyu Home of Hope)(pictured below left to right). The children lined up with their teams, and had 1 minute to pass as many water balloons as they could done the line to their captains, who popped the balloon over the administrators head.

The children must have enjoyed this because the first go around ended in a tie. So for the tie breaker…..they did it again. Team Fire won with successfully popping 15 balloons over my (Ben) head…and the balloon had to be popped over the head, a few hit my knee and shoulder which did not count.

Next we played a game that the point of the game was to fill up a cup with water then run to a fill a bucket about 30 feet away.

And to keep up with our goal (“To get as wet as possible and stay that way!”), the cup has several holes in it:)

Eli, our middle son (pictures above left), chases after Gabe (pictured above middle) and Sarah (pictured above right)

Mark (left) and Gene (right) race to dump their cup!

Above Holly, Shirley and Gail (left to right) hold the bucket down while Vincent (left) and Timothy (right) dump their cups.

The race was very close. The grass started getting very wet around the buckets and several children ran up to the bucket so fast that they could not stop because it was so slick; which ended up with them on the ground and their team bucket being kicked over. The funny thing was that it happened to all three teams several times. Team FIRE came out with the win, and their reward……a bucket of water on each of the captains head (Vincent and Jenny)

We finished the day by going to the swimming pool. We started going swimming 2 years ago and the children absolutely loved it, so we have tried to plan on going each year. What a great way to cool off and have a great time too!

Unity

The 3rd and last day of the camp was all about unity. The first 2 days the children were rekindling friendships and meeting new friends. The 3rd day was all about working together as a team.
The children started the day off by gathering together and going over a list of questions to ask each of the members in their team. They were later given a test on how much they knew about each member.

The craft for the day was decorating an envelope that the children hung on the wall for other children to put a note inside it.
This was very cool to see the excitement of the children both writing messages and receiving them.

Sticking with the Unity theme we played lots of team games. The first game we played was having the children sit in line and pass a dodge ball down the line…without using their hands or letting it hit the ground

Team FIRE was quite excited when they won, it was not an easy feat.

We took a break for a snack, which again we have done each year and each year the children ask us to do the following year. The point of this snack is for 2 children to make and eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich…..but one child makes the sandwich for the other without being able to see and feeds it to them; this involves a lot of team work:)

The afternoon we held a ping pong and basketball tournament. The winners of the ping pong tournament (2 person teams) won a new ping pong paddle for each player, and the winners of the basketball tournament won a new basketball for each player. It just so happened that Matthew (below left) and Tony (below right) won both tournaments. Along with winning the paddles and basketballs they also earned points for their team. Each year the point difference between the teams are very close. When Matthew and Tony won both tournaments, they did not realize that they also earned enough points to push their team (POP) into first place!

While the older children were competing in the ping pong and basketball tournaments, Michelle set up a ring toss for the younger children. We had small toys and nick knacks from America for the children to win.

At the end of the 3rd day after all of the activities were finished and all the points tallied for each team. We had a huge feast that included hotdogs, chips, cakes, assorted fruit and veggies, and a nice cold drink.

The younger children work their way down the buffet table while the older children passed out the food.

Once the children got their food they settled down to watch a talent show that some of the children prepared.

Some of the Gongyi kindergarten aged children prepared a few songs (left to right) Abby, Caleb, Grace (behind Caleb), Ron and Mary

Then Caleb and Ron did a Kung Fu show that they learned at school

All of our children prepared a song, “This Little Light of Mine”. They practiced it for 2 weeks singing it both in English and Chinese. One night during one of the rehearsals we brought them into our house to explain to them the meaning of the song. We turned off all of the lights then lit a candle and passed it down the line showing how easy it is to spread the joy and hope they have to the other children.

After everyone was done eating we gave out the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards. This year they received gold, silver and bronze metals!

To end the camp we danced late into the night.

We thank you for your patience with giving us time to complete this page and sorry for the length of it. Our children had such a great time and look forward to our summer camp all year; we just wanted to make sure you were able to experience some of their joy.

Thank you

The night before Easter, Michelle, our 3 boys and I (Ben) stayed up late and got all the baskets ready. Our boys were so happy to be involved and love helping whenever they get the chance.

We started Easter morning off with doing our Easter basket hunt. Each basket had 9 plastic eggs filled with candy, one hard boiled egg that the kindergarten boys were able to color and dye (see pictures below), a puzzle that they could color and put together, a pencil and 1 yuan ($0.15) for the children to buy a small snack at school.

While the older children were in school, we brought our kindergarten aged boys into our house to color and dye some eggs.
Noah (left) and Danny (right) were quite surprised to put a brown egg into the cup and have it be a different color when he pulled it out. White eggs are too expensive to use and are meant as a gift for when a child is born.

Jake (left) and Chris(right) coloring eggs
.

After the morning basket hunt and activities, Michelle made the children pizza; the first time she made pizza for the children they were very grateful for the pizza but did not like the cheese and scraped it off; so this time she made cheeseless pizza; without cheese is it really a pizza?
Michelle made a pizza for our kindergarten room (pictured above), our girls room and our older boys room. They choose what they wanted on it, and again their toppings are nothing like the topping we are used to in the States. We had corn, potatoes, tomatoes, pineapples, fried apples, and pork slices, this was their choosing not ours.

After lunch Michelle took our girls out to take a few pictures, anything to dress up our girls:)

Once they got started taking pictures they wanted to take them everywhere……..

……..and with everyone!

Thank you so much for supporting our children and for making an impact on lives that were considered not worth while. With your help all of our children have the opportunity for greatness! Bless you and we hope you all had a great Easter.

We do want to make special note that we are lifting all of you up who are suffering or know someone who is suffering from all the tornadoes and storms in the States. Be strong and courageous for God will be with you!

One person is blind folded and spins 10 times around, then they yell out stop. Once they yell out stop, no one can move from there spot. The the blind folded person walks around trying to find them; but the fun does not end there. Once you find a person, you then have to guess who it is.

The older boys chased each other all over our yard playing tag. The picture above shows Eddy (Guo Xin) (the boy in red) trying to tag Tyler (our youngest son and pictured in the middle), while Jaxin (our eldest son) starts to run in the opposite direction.

We usually do not have our children do too many chores because of their extremely hard school schedule; they start studying at 6 in the morning and sometimes dont stop until 8 at night. The children really enjoyed working together and had a feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day.

PingYu City

Above is a picture of PingYu city and all the different villages from where our children came from. This map is in our office with a small picture of each child on it showing them where they came from. Pingyu has over 800,000 people; with over 1000 registered orphaned children. In the year we have lived here in Pingyu, we have searched out and interviewed over 70 orphaned children, with the hopes to find children who were in the most need of our help. We are so grateful for your help in reaching out and making a difference in this city. We thank God for your continued prayer and financial support; with it we have been able to reach out to give hope to 21 children.

As soon as Chris, Hollie, and Wendy were settled in, we were invited to watch a free movie in a newly opened Movie Theater.
The 2 people in the front right row were friends of the owner, but everyone else in the theater were either our children or our staff members. Our children really enjoyed the movie, they even played the movie with English subtitles so Michelle, our three sons, and I could follow the movie too.
Before the movie, the owner of the theater gave each one of our children a new school bag. Zoey (Meng Yu Qing) front left with Anna (Wang Yan) right behind her, Joey (Wang Bao Gui) middle row looking back at Noah (Zhang Chen Liang) and Mark (Zhang Guang Hui) front right with Lester (Sun Li) behind him.

Lets Go Fly a Kite!

As soon as we returned home from the movies, we were met by a group of volunteers who wanted to bless our children by giving them bubbles and kites. Our yard is too small and has way too many power lines to fly one kite let alone 10 kites; so we drove all of our children to the park.
Noah and Tyler (our youngest son) flying a kite together.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Right after dinner we had a birthday party for (below left to right) Thomas (5 years old), Chris (6 years old) , Lester (7 years old) and Emma (8 years old).

To finish the Lantern Festival off we shot off more fireworks and lanterns!!!!
Emma (Wang Zi Yi) is holding a sparkler. The picture on the left is 10,000 fire crackers (about the same thing as a Bobcat fire cracker but more powerful) being shot off…very loud and very messy, but the children enjoyed it which makes it well worth while.

We bought each room their own lantern to light. This lantern was the kindergarten rooms, as you can see Danny (Yang Xin Feng) in the bottom left wishing it a good flight.

We thank you for taking the time to read about our family here in Pingyu China. We are quickly approaching our 1st anniversary and we are so grateful for all of your prayers and financial support that you have given to help save some of the lost children of China. Below is a picture of our children with their lanterns. With your prayers and financial help, you are spreading hope into a child’s life that never knew the meaning of the word….HOPE!
So when we woke up one morning with a surprise snow, all of our children jumped out of bed and landed out in the snow. They did not come back inside until all the snow(which was just a dusting) melted or they used it to make a snowman, had a snowball fight and made snow angels.

First was a 77 year old man and woman who have 2 grandchildren, one 9 year old girl (Hollie-Zhang Guang Hui) and one 5 year old boy (Chris-Zhang Guang Zhen). Hollie and Chris‘ father drowned in a lake and their mother ran away.Hollie and Chris with their grandparents.
Hollie (left)is showing us her bed and Chris (right) is showing us his bed that he shares with his grandparents.
Hollie and Chris live in a small broken house, as you can see Hollie playing with a loose brick in the above picture. Also as you can see in the picture below, the grandparents have a few sticks holding up one wall; not a very safe place for children to play.

Wendy (Meng Wen Di)

The 2nd family that contacted us was actually quite a surprise. During our first child search and our first group of children who came in; we met Wendy (Meng Wen Di) and she instantly became everyone’s favorite. Wendy’s father died from a blood disease and her mother ran away.

After 2 weeks of living with us, Wendy could not live without her grandparents and went back home. This was a hard emotion to grasp because we know that it would be better for all of our children to live with their families, but if you know that a family is too poor, old or sick (her grandfather had a stroke) to properly take care of a child, it would be in the best interest of that child to be under our care.
Now that Wendy (pictured above with her grandmother) is one year older (she is 9 years old) and her grandfathers health has not improved; she (meaning Wendy herself) called us asking if she could come back to our home and live with us. She told us that she realizes that if her grandparents are not here to take care of her, that she will be all alone.

Wendy, Hollie and Chris will be arriving on February the 18th 2011. If your interested in getting more involved and want to sponsor a child please click the Sponsor a Child link and it will explain how.
Thank you
