Christmas 2012

The Pingyu Home of Hope family made up with 23 children, 11 staff members, 2 long term volunteers and Michelle and I along with our 3 boys!!!

(left to right) Kamala and Jason, Christa and Alex are our friends from Beijing who came down to celebrate Christmas with us. They helped us with many different things like wrapping presents, fixing our girls hair, taking pictures and most importantly spreading love to our children!!!

We started our Christmas celebration off with a huge dinner with several wonderful tasty dishes. Normally when we eat, each child has 2 bowls, one for soup and one for the main course. They, of course, are allowed to go up for a second helping if they want. So this meal is extra special because each table had several dishes for them to try. Since we were having our Christmas program in our dining hall, we used our classroom to eat dinner in. It was quite packed in there, but no one seemed to mind!!!

After dinner, we all moved back into our dining hall to start our Christmas program. We started off by explaining the Reason for the Season. Then our good friends from Pingyu bought a birthday cake and we sang “Happy Birthday” to Jesus!

Before we opened the presents, the children, staff and friends wanted to sing and dance to help explain the reason for the season. Each room performed a dance, everyone sang “Silent Night”, and several of our children preformed a silent play. The play was so moving; Vivian (one of our teachers) put it together. The play showed us why exactly we needed to celebrate Jesus’ birthday. All in all, our Christmas program was awesome! You can check out the kids performances on Youtube; look under the name Michelle Godard.

The day after our Christmas program, the power company had to shut the power down in our neighborhood to do some repairs. It was off all day and did not come back on until 1 am. We had no heat or water. Thankfully we were planning on having a bonfire that night anyway, so we all gathered around the fire telling stories and singing songs. This did help all the children be very grateful for their new blankets they received for Christmas:)

We want to thank everyone for their support. You help bless children who came from a place with no hope, to a place full of love, peace and happiness! Our hopes are that all of our children and future children will learn this love and pass it on to others. Thank you for setting a great example for them to follow.

Below are several pictures of our Christmas party that we did not want you to miss out on seeing!
