Brendan and Robby our new 4 year old boys.
Tammy pictured left and Kelly on the right came to our home last summer but Robby was just too young and attached to his grandfather. We decided to give him another year with his grandfather, who was more than willing to only have to be responsible for just one child instead of 4. They have an older sister who is in high school who is too old for us to help.
Their dad was a construction worker and just finished their house when at a different job site a wall fell on him killing him. Each child we bring in is truly a special situation…yes they have similarities to other children at our home but we treat each situation with a fresh mind. Their mom remarried and will be moving to the south of China. In rural China, most mothers have no voice; actually the children are really not even considered theirs but the husbands. Tammy,Kelly and Robby’s mom remarried after a few years of her husbands death to another man in the village whose wife also died. Her husband does not want to adopt the kids because he has 3 of his own. Like most Chinese families, he works in a different city pretty far away, and wanted his wife to come work with him but told her she could not come until she found someone to take her kids. She was very torn because she wants to take care of her children but at the same time needs to be with her husband.
This past year Robby has come to our home once a month getting more and more used to us. He has gotten so comfortable that on the day of his medical exam, he would not go anywhere without his gege (older brother)! He loves Jaxin(our eldest son) very much.
Brendan lives with his baby brother and his 60+ grandparents who also watch their 2 other grandchildren. His baby brother is 1 1/2 years old and is very attached to his grandfather. We are going to help like we did with Robby. We hope when they come and visit we can build a relationship with him.
Brendan’s father died from a brain hemorrhage 2 years ago. As soon as his younger brother was born, their mother ran away. His younger brother has a cleft lip and palate. They did have surgery for his lip though.
Brendan seems to be a very deep thinker and a very mature boy for his age.
In the short time they were here, they came into my office and grabbed stuff off my desk and broke it. We had them go outside and play on our playground so we could go over the contract with the family. They were outside for 5 minutes and would not listen to our housemothers warnings to play nicer. They knocked Brendan off the monkey bars which on his way down he hit his arm and broke it.
His family did not want to leave him like this, so once his arm is healed, they will bring him back to our home. We told them he could stay, but his grandmother said that she would not be able to have peace of mind if she left him like this. Please pray for his recovery
